Her hairstylist Craig Gangi began with Kendrick's clean, blown-out strands, although if you're trying this style at home, unwashed hair is ideal so your braids aren't as slippery. "I needed to add texture to her clean, dry hair, so I sprayed Lionel Renard's Strong Hold Hairspray ($25; lionelrenard.com for locations) all over to prep it, then curled sections with the T3 Body Waver iron ($150; sephora.com)," he tells us. After sectioning her hair into a side part, Gangi twisted the trio of braids into place. "I made 3 small braids on one side of her head, then secured her hair into a low ponytail," he adds. "Then, I took a small section of the ponytail, braided it, and wrapped that braid around the base of the style." A handful of hairpins secured the additional plait. To finish, Gangi pulled out a small section of curls at the front to frame the star's face, and added a light veil of Oribe Texturizing Spray ($42; oribe.com). "It gave the look a sexy, undone feeling," he says. Get more celebrity hair inspiration by clicking through our gallery!
