The picturesque terrace of New York City’s Gramercy Park Hotel is typically reserved for invite-only events like exclusive weddings and Fashion Week clothing presentations, but Rachel Zoe understandably wanted a piece of the pie and shut down the space Thursday night to celebrate her new stroller, car seat, and diaper bag collection with Maxi-Cosi and Quinny.

“I don’t believe in letting yourself go ‘cause you’re a new mom, you know? I don’t believe in that,” Zoe told InStyle at the party, explaining how the new line of kid-friendly accessories came together. “As a mom, it’s kind of, sort of, a mission for me to have baby gear that can and should look good with whatever you’re wearing, whatever you’re doing. And whether it’s in the back of your car or whether you’re walking down the street, it should be something you’re like, ‘I love this!’”

That desire to merge practicality and style is what unearthed the idea behind these products (below), which, as any mom as chic as Zoe would love, includes items that come in black and white fabric lined with cognac leather and gold detailing, all pieced together as finely as any garment the stylist and mother of two would don on the red carpet. “Ultimately, the most important thing with any of these, with the car seat or stroller, is safety. Ultimately the child has to be safe and they have to be comfortable,” she added.

Inside of the celebration, where guests participated in plenty of photo booth fun and headed to the back bar for mixed cocktails and bubbly, Zoe, who arrived in an outfit from her pre-fall collection (“It was such a beautiful night and I was like, ‘I feel like being in lace and sheer,’” she said of her outfit), dished on how to stay stylish as a mom.

“For me, my go-to is always a black tuxedo pant or a black kind of slouchy trouser with a shirt, like some kind of easy tunic or T-shirt, or like a thin knit sweater that I can throw on all the time,” she said of her favorite mommy pieces, adding “denim, dark denim jeans that if they get stained it doesn’t matter. And always a pair of heels that I can last a long time in and still look OK, but be comfortable in.”

Don’t think it’s always a fashion show in her world, though. “Have your wardrobe staples that you can go to that, by the way, look good, but aren’t so precious ‘cause they will get puked on and peed on and all that. They will. That’s just the reality of it,” she admitted. “I think it’s about durability and things that you can literally take a baby wipe and clean it up.”
