For Rachel Zoe, an off-the-shoulder gold dress equals comfort. “I need to somehow be dressed up and be able to move. So I turn to gold lamé in that situation,” she told InStyle Monday night inside L.A.’s Sunset Tower Hotel for her fall 2017 presentation dinner.

Describing her collection as “effortless, glamorous clothes that just are easy to wear,” Zoe said the inspiration behind it was “modern Hollywood glamour,” and also the women around her who love to “get dressed every day, but have a lot to do, so they need to throw something on that’s fabulous, but takes five minutes.”

For Zoe though, fashion and her collections mean so much more to her than just the look. “It’s really about boosting confidence, empowering women, and giving them the tools to kind of live their lives in the best way they can,” she told us.

While Zoe and the models continued to get ready for the show, a cocktail hour kicked off, with guests like Nicole Richie, Eva Longoria, and more bubbling with anticipation as they sipped Ruffino red and white wine, and the two signature Casamigos cocktails on hand—the Reposado New Fashion and Spicy Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita.

Once the presentation began, models sauntered out in cold-shoulder dresses in black and metallic hues with a model in a glam, shimmery gown with a laced-up back ending the show. It was the look Zoe told us earlier in the night she was most excited for guests to see. “It’s like a beautiful, kind of liquid, sequin, rose gold colored gown with a low back that laces up,” she said. “It’s really beautiful. I love it.”

When the show wrapped up, Richie, who was sitting next to Zoe, yelled out “Yessss queen!” as she and everyone else in the room gave her a round of applause. Zoe went on to give a speech and thank everyone for being there, and got emotional as she addressed the crowd.

“I’m this weird hybrid person that’s half L.A., and half New York. I’m from New York, but I live here, but I love New York, and I show in New York,” she said. “For a long time, I’ve wanted to do a presentation here, because I’ve been here 13 years. My family’s here, and all of you are here. I kept fighting it because New York is New York, right? But I thought, last year at this exact time when I was showing in New York, I thought, you know, this is it for a minute, and I need to take a step back and think about who I am, who I’m speaking to, who I’m selling to, who I’m inspired by, and what I want to say.”

“So, what I want to say is, showing here tonight feels like home, and a lot of that is because you guys are here,” she said as she wiped away tears, while an attendee yelled out “We love you, Rachel!” “Thank you from the bottom of my soul for coming,” she continued. “We’re all friends. Everyone just drink a lot, eat a lot, dance if you feel like it, walk a runway if you feel like it. You guys really are the women that inspire me, you inspire me to design, you inspire me to keep doing what I do, and I really am so eternally grateful to all of you.”
