Rachel McAdams is a big fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, but she’s not such a huge proponent of the name that his fans have given themselves. The British star’s female fandom has taken to calling themselves “Cumberbitches,” a fact that Ellen DeGeneres took it upon herself to point out on Thursday.

“They’re called Cumberbitches, right? His fans are called Cumberbitches,” the talk show host said of McAdams’s Dr. Strange co-star and his massive female following. “They call themselves that, yes. They did that to themselves,” she joked.

“I asked him about that one day. I said, you know, ‘How do you feel about your Cumberbitches?’ And he said, ‘Oh, it’s very flattering but I just wish they called themselves something more respectable, like Cumberhumans or Cumberpeople,’” McAdams said.

“That doesn’t go with ‘batch.’ Does he understand that? He’s not that bright,” DeGeneres joked.

Still, the Mean Girls star was quick to stand up for her British co-star. “He’s a great guy,” she told the crowd.
