Quantico star Priyanka Chopra is officially signed on to star in the new Baywatch movie, but don't expect her to don a red bathing suit. Instead, the actress is playing the movie’s main antagonist, a role that was originally written for a male star.
“I was in talks with Baywatch for another part in the movie. The villain’s role was written for a guy,” she told InStyle. “They thought it would be more interesting for me to play the villain instead of one of the lifeguards. I thought that was pretty cool. It gives me the ability to really explore my evil side, and now I’m realizing I might have one,” she joked.
She's one of the biggest stars in the world. Insanely talented, relentlessly smokin' and extremely dangerous - perfect for #BAYWATCH. Welcome @PriyankaChopra to our bad ass and incredibly dysfunctional family. Cue RATED R slo-mo running on the beach. We start shooting next week. World.. #WelcomeToBaywatch 🇺🇸🌊🇮🇳👊🏾
The movie may be a comedy, but that doesn’t mean Chopra isn’t intimidating. “The villain is really over-the-top and really dangerous,” she said. “I don’t just take on The Rock. I take on all of the lifeguards, so it will be really fun to see what happens.”
As we saw from The Rock’s Instagram feed, Kelly Rohrbach and the lifeguard cast will be wearing the iconic Baywatch red swimsuits.
A pleasure welcoming @kellyrohrbach to our #BAYWATCH family for the iconic role of "CJ Parker". Yes, she's a walking smoke stack but more importantly... she's smart, tough and funny. Just the way we like 'em. Get ready world, we can't wait to bring you our generation's #BAYWATCH! You'll have fun... 👊🏾🔥💯👙🍆 (last emoji somewhat inappropriate).
But what will Chopra’s evil character Victoria wear? “Victoria’s obsessed with shoes,” she told us. “[The lifeguards] are not going to be wearing shoes, and I will be—extremely high, very pointy, extremely expensive shoes.”
If you’re worried that the reboot won’t do justice to the original series, super-fan Chopra is here to ensure that the film lives up to expectations. “Baywatch was hugely phenomenally popular in India and I grew up on it. It was one of my favorite shows while I was a teenager,” she said. “As a Baywatch fan, I really wanted to know that the movie lives up to what Baywatch was, and it’s hilarious.”
We can’t wait to Chopra show off her evil side when the film hits theaters next year.
