It's time to get excited, '90s kids. Ever since we found out that Power Rangers was getting a reboot, we've been waiting with bated breath to see just how our teenage superheroes were going to look. Well, wait no more—today, Entertainment Weekly released the first photo of the mighty morphing Power Rangers in costume, and is is so cool.
As you can see, the team's suits have changed a bit—gone are the neon spandex we grew to love as children. In their place, instead, are "translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies," EW says. Pretty nifty.
The film's director, Dean Israelite, spoke with the magazine about the new outfits. "The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis," he says. "These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit." Israelite admits that it's tough to find "a new language for a superhero costume," and while he doesn't think everyone will be a fan of this new iteration, the franchise is hoping to gain a newer, more mature fan.
One person who's definitely all for the outfits? The Yellow Ranger herself, played by singer Becky G. "It's the coolest costume ever," she says. "I'm gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years."
