We've seen plenty of plunging necklines on the red carpet, but for the 2016 Oscars, only a handful of stars brought the trend to a whole new level, taking the plunge and diving into the deep end from the front andthe back.

But let's start with the back first. Oscars nominees Saoirse Ronan (in Calvin Klein Collection) and Rachel McAdams (in August Getty Atelier) shared more than an affinity for the color emerald—when they turned, their dresses were scandalously cut all the way downtothere. And they weren't the only ones to bring sexy back—A-listers, including Rooney Mara, Chrissy Teigen, Olivia Wilde, and Charlize Theron, alll showcased open backs.

And speaking of Wilde and Theron, not only did they put their backs on full display, but their fronts too (sorry, that sounded weird), with navel-grazing necklines that had us wondering how much double-sided fashion tape was sacrificed to ensure everything would stay firmly in place. Wilde's square-cut plunging neckline was courtesy of Valentino Haute Couture, while Theron slipped into a siren-red sternum-baring Dior Haute Couture creation. In the end, it was really a question of: How low can you go? And, well, these stars answered it.
