Oprah Will Give a Commencement Speech For the Class of 2020

With help from Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Garner, Awkwafina, and more.

Though the coronavirus pandemic has upended graduation season for many seniors, there's a small silver lining, in the form of Oprah Winfrey.

According to Deadline, Oprah will be giving a personal commencement speech via livestream (the way we're doing most everything else lately) on May 15. And what's more, she'll be joined by Miley Cyrus (deliver a special performance of "The Climb"), Jennifer Garner, Awkwafina, Simone Biles, Lil Nas X, and more guests to be announced.

The event will air on Facebook and Instagram, and clips will be shared on individual guests' Instagram accounts. Facebook also says the ceremony will give shout-outs to high schools and colleges throughout the U.S., and include photos and videos of the class of 2020 and messages from principals and deans.

With schools around the globe closing down to protect students and staff from the coronavirus, planned graduation ceremonies have been called off, with many schools opting to hold ceremonies virtually. With Oprah's help, though, hopefully this livestream will make commencement season slightly more special.

This isn't the only way Oprah is helping out amid the pandemic — she's also pledged $1 million to America's Food Fund, as well as $10 million overall to "help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up."
