Dear Tatiana, We've never met you, but we feel like we know you. All the many, many, sides of you. We've swooned over your gritty and glamorous portrayal of the clones of BBC America's Orphan Black for 20 episodes now, rooting for two seasons as your characters (now approaching a dozen) struggle to determine their mysterious origins, and marveling at your ability to make us forget, for 44 minutes or so, that a single actress is playing them all.
Along the way we've dished about everything from lead character and resident punk momma Sarah Manning's signature fashion to brainy Cosima Nieuhaus' winged eyeliner to the celebrity-inspired hairstyles of prim and proper suburbanite Alison Hendrix and the wild-curled (and natured) Helena, ever ravenous for food and love.
And we celebrated with you last month when you accepted your second Critic's Choice award for Best Actress in a Drama series (looking adorable in an ivory Cushnie et Ochs peplum gown, top).
So when the nominees for the 66th annual Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and for the second time you and the show were absent, we know we were not alone in wanting to kick in the doors of the Dyad Institute with our black Sartori boots and demand judges with a different DNA sequence entirely.
Don't get us wrong. We happen to absolutely love all the terrific actresses that were nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Michelle Dockery for Downton Abbey, Claire Danes for Homeland, Robin Wright for House of Cards, Kerry Washington for Scandal, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife and Lizzy Caplan, for Masters of Sex. But surely this should have been your year, too!Our only consolation is that you and your growing clone army (the latest being transgender Tony “Antoinette” Sawicki) will be back once again gracing our small screen with the just-announced renewal of a third season next spring.
Until then we'll be keeping the Extended Clone Party Dance Remix on repeat, monkey.
Here's to a clone-filled 2015, Tatiana!
Spoiler alert: Here's a BBC America clip that shows how they filmed the clones dancing together in the final scene of the season 2 finale:
