She has played a quizzical financial news anchor on Newsroom, Sarah Jessica Parker’s high strung co-worker in I Don't Know How She Does It, and Magic Mike’s girlfriend, but Olivia Munn’s next role could be her coolest: a superhero. Munn has been cast to play Betsey Braddock, aka Psylocke, in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.
The film's director, Bryan Singer, announced the big casting news on Instagram with the message, "Excited to welcome Olivia Munn as Betsey Braddock!"
In the Marvel comics, Munn's character wields telepathic and telekinetic powers as well as assassin skills, after switching bodies with a Japanese ninja named Kwannon. Apocalypse, which follows up last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past, is set for a May 2016 release. Munn joins a star-studded cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult. The film will complete a storyline trilogy that started in 2011 with X-Men: First Class.
