Though stripes are among the most timeless patterns in the world, they aren't always the easiest to pull off. But leave it to Natalie Portman to make the eye-catching print look impossibly chic.

The expectant star opted for a classic stripe gown by The Row ($3,750; barneys.com) at the Israel Film Festival Gala in Beverly Hills on Wednesday: a belted, floor-grazing number with bell sleeves. A retro-inspired, half-up half-down hairstyle, barely-there makeup, and rosy lips completed the Academy Award-winner's beauty look, while simple hoops ($150; eddieborgo.com) and a Vic Minaudière clutch ($2,190; eddieborgo.com) accented her already statement-making ensemble. The Planetarium actress picked up the Achievement in Film Award for the momentous evening.

Portman was joined at the event by Career Achievement Award honoree Sharon Stone and Thor co-star Kat Dennings. The duo will appear on the big screen next year when the third film in the saga, Thor: Ragnarok, is released in November 2017. Portman has a jam-packed schedule in the coming year, as she will be welcoming her second child with Benjamin Millepied, as well playing First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the biopic Jackie.
