A Mr. Robot-Inspired Concept Shop Just Opened—and You Won't Believe What's on Sale
You can now officially deck out your life in everything Mr. Robot. The hit hacker series premieres its second season on July 13, and USA Network has teamed up with New York City concept shop STORY to celebrate its return. The result? A curated in-store-only selection of tech-themed pieces and accessories inspired by the show (think the heart-shaped sunglasses worn by Carly Chaikin’s character, Darlene, and the signature hat that Christian Slater’s Mr. Robot is never without), all surrounded by arcade games and interactive displays that recreate the Coney Island headquarters of “fsociety.”
Based on the idea of cultural disruption, the “Disrupt STORY” retail experience is certainly one-of-a-kind. The store itself is split into four categorized factions: the Founders, the Innovators, the Union of 1s, and the Expressionists—one of whom is none other than the show's star, Carly Chaikin. She painted an original work of art that’s featured on a range of limited-edition merchandise for the installation. “I had been wanting to do a painting of the ‘fsociety’ mask for a while,” the actress and artist told InStyle at the store’s unveiling on June 6. “So this was the perfect opportunity.”
Chaikin's painting is featured on a backpack, T-shirt, journal, and—the star’s personal favorite—a pair of Stance socks in the collection. “I’m the biggest sock fan,” she revealed. “My biggest nightmare in life is walking on carpet barefoot.” The socks may be Chaikin's most-coveted item in the range, but the star made it clear that she’s obsessed with each one of the pieces that displays her art. “I want one of everything,” she said. “I’m going to buy it all, because I love it.”
Scroll down for a peek inside the store, which will be open through July 24.
