New York City real estate can be tough—just ask The Mindy Project’s Peter Prentice. Last night’s episode finds the boyish doctor (played by Adam Pally) in a housing predicament, but thanks to Mindy, he’s able rent Danny’s second apartment.

Not surprisingly, this situation leads to some living situation issues between Mindy, Danny, and Peter, but on the brightside, we got a whole lot of chic lounging outfits from Dr. Lahiri. “Even her casual looks have a fashion element,” costume designer Salvador Perez tells InStyle. “Mindy’s casual is not reality though. It’s just high-end pieces worn in a casual way.”

Case in point: the Trina Turk honeycomb sweatshirt Perez paired with star-print Zoe Karssen leggings and Stella McCartney for Adidas sneakers Mindy wore to break up Peter’s party (above). To keep the casual look sophisticated, Perez made sure to keep the color palette the same. “The mix-match patterns work when you keep it tonal,” he explains.

The raucous party left quite a mess, but it wasn’t just discarded solo cups that had to be cleaned up. Under the impression that Danny would be knocking down the walls between the two apartments to make room for their future family, Mindy learned that he was actually making room for his mom.

For their post-party talk, Perez dressed Mindy in gray sweatshirt, black leggings, and Converse sneakers. “She was feeling hurt by Danny, so I wanted her to be gray and neutral,” says Perez. However, the look wasn’t devoid of all color. “The yellow made it more flattering and more Mindy. She lives in color!”

We’ll be chatting with Perez every week about our favorite looks from The Mindy Project, so be sure to check back in next week!
