At the Women in the World Summit on Thursday, the 36-year-old actress, producer, and bestselling author was asked a series of questions about her career thus far, from her responsibility for bringing diversity to Hollywood (“Young women of color want to see someone on the TV who is not playing a terrorist or someone in IT”) to what it's like being a #girlboss (“I’m decisive to the point of being brusque, and then I’ll just send cupcakes”). Yet when asked what’s ahead: In a rare moment, Kaling didn't have an answer. “I don’t know, maybe I should have a kid or something. Or a car,” she said. Currently at work on a screenplay about “feminist issues, which I’m excited about,” she’s already achieved everything she ever dreamt about. “I’ve said this before and it sounds so maudlin, but it’s true—I am literally living the dream I had as a 6-year-old,” she said. “I didn’t dream big enough for what I can do so I’m excited to see what I can do after this.”
