In honor of this week's exciting release of single "Malibu"—a mature, ballad-inspired track that's a far cry from 2013's club hit-heavy Bangerz—after a long musical hiatus, Miley Cyrus is fittingly throwing it back to where it all started.

More than a decade ago, the former Disney alum first stepped into the limelight as the star of Hannah Montana. And the 24-year-old was feeling nostalgic as she visited Radio Disney on Thursday to promote her new song and was surprised by a viewing of her original Hannah Montana audition tape during the interview.

In the old clip, 12-year-old Miley—clad in a shirt that reads "I should have my own TV show"—confidently tells producers that she's going to be signed to a music label after she performs a song called "We're Going to the Beach."

We weren't the only ones getting the throwback feels, as the "We Can't Stop" hitmaker exclaimed, "That is a jewel. That is a gem," while rewatching the video. The former teen idol also reminisced about how far she'd come, remembering, "The first time I was ever in this building, which I drove to from Nashville with my mom. I had to sign in at the desk right there and tell them, 'I'm here for an audition.'"

Now 12 years later and with a number of successful collaborations, hit albums, and buzzed-about hosting gigs under her belt, it's safe to say that this pop star is truly living the best of both worlds.
