If you were hoping that Michelle Obama would run for President, we have some bad news. During a women's empowerment forum in Boston, the former First Lady of the United States revealed she has no plans to become our country's next Commander-in-Chief.
Her decision not to throw her name in the ring as a potential Democratic candidate may upset her devoted fans, but she has a good reason for sticking to private life.
"The reason why I don't want to run for president, I can't speak for Oprah, but my sense is that first of all you have to want the job," Obama said.
"You have to want the job. And you can't just say, 'You're a woman, run.' And we can't look for women like that. We just can't find the women we like and ask them to do it because there are millions of women who are inclined and do have the passion for politics," she continued.
Obama explained that she just doesn't have the passion for politics quite like her husband, former President Barack Obama. Though, that didn't stop speculation that she was considering a run after a very well-received speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
"Just because I gave a good speech, I'm smart and intelligent doesn't mean I should be the next president," she said."That's been our problem. We're very shortsighted about how we think about selecting the commander-in-chief."
With Michelle and Oprah's insistence that they won't run for office, it appears that the Democratic party will have to look to other strong party leaders in the 2020 Presidential race.
