Following a meeting with PETA, the fashion mogul’s company announced Friday that it has decided to go completely fur-free by the end of next year. Michael Kors Holdings Unlimited released a statement saying the global fashion luxury group “will no longer use animal fur in its products, and will no longer use animal fur in its products, with production being phased out by the end of December 2018.” “Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur,” Kors also said in the statement. “We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.” Since the company acquired Jimmy Choo in July 2017, that means the same will go for the luxe shoe brand too. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images The news comes after a group of anti-fur activists stormed the stage during Kors’s talk with Alina Cho at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in June. “This is a wonderful holiday gift for fur-bearing animals,” Dan Mathews, PETA senior vice president, said in a statement. “We're pleased that the company is evolving away from using fur and look forward to working with Michael Kors on other issues in the future. The announcement follows many years of protests at Michael Kors fashion shows and boutiques by PETA and other animal rights groups.” It’s safe to say this is one sweet holiday gift for animal lovers everywhere.
