Meghan Markle Is Going to Wear Multiple Dresses on Her Wedding Day

Meghan Markle’s wedding day is going to be fabulous, at least according to one royal insider.

Though we knew she’d technically wear two wedding dresses this year—one for her IRL nuptials, one on the season 7 finale of Suits—it’s finally confirmed that indeed, the newest member of the British royal family is doing it big come May 19. Vanity Fair reports that Markle has ordered two custom dresses to wed Prince Harry; one dress will be expectedly traditional for the ceremony, and the other will likely be more modern for the reception.

“She will have two dresses, one for the ceremony and another dress for the evening,” a source reportedly said. “The plan is for her to change after the ceremony so that she can party the night away in something glamorous and less restrictive. Meghan can’t wait to surprise everyone, especially Harry. The wedding dress itself will be traditional and elegant. There is talk of some lace and sleeves and Meghan has been working very closely with the designer who has been sworn to secrecy."

So who’s making 2018’s most talked-about dress? Markle reportedly selected the designer in January, with the help of Jessica Mulroney, her friend and bridal stylist. Roland Mouret, Alexander McQueen, Israel-based designer Inbal Dror, and Erdem have all been tossed up as potential fits, and most recently, the Daily Mail reported that it could be Burberry.

As Vanity Fair points out, the decision to wear two dresses is of course not a novel concept—so don’t think Markle’s trying to up the ante. In fact, Kate Middleton famously wore a gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown to marry Prince William, but later changed into another Sarah Burton-designed McQueen dress that gave her more room to have fun in.

One thing’s for sure: this dress will go down in history.
