Meghan Markle commemorated her and Prince Harry’s first month as a married couple with (what else?) horse racing.
Granted, this is not your typical sporting event. Markle made her debut on opening day of the Royal Ascot by horse-drawn carriage, riding alongside her new husband as well as his uncle Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Countess of Wessex. (FYI: This all went down following a totally casual lunch with the Queen of England). So, essentially, the Royal Ascot makes the Kentucky Derby look like a Monster Truck rally.
In what was perhaps a nod to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding day exactly one month prior, Meghan donned an ivory button-front Givenchy shirtdress with lace appliques adorning the waist and a high-low hem falling below the knee. Markle paired the sophisticated piece with a small black clutch, matching pumps, a thin black waist belt, and the mother of all hats: a black and white Philip Treacy fascinator that honestly deserves its own zip code.
Harry stood by her side, looking similarly tasteful in a black top hat and suit with tails.
As always, Queen Elizabeth stood out from the crowd in her beloved brights, arriving on site in a long yellow jacket worn atop a yellow dress with a blue floral print, a matching topper, and her classic three strands of pearls.
Let the races begin!
