Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Skipping Prince Charles's 70th Birthday Party
Meghan Markle and Prince Charles seem to be the best of friends in Kensington Palace, but that doesn't mean she's pulling out all the stops for his 70th birthday. In fact, she's actually skipping the entire event, and so is Prince Harry.
Prince Charles will be thrown a huge celebration on Oct. 25, all organized by Camilla, and it'll casually include a dinner and concert featuring opera, ballet, and Shakespearean drama, according to Vanity Fair. But look at that date a little more closely — the 25th is already firmly booked on Meghan and Harry's calendar.
“It’s going to be a very special night and Charles is very much looking forward to it,” a source told VF. “Harry and Meghan can’t be there because they will be overseas. It’s why they were so keen to be at the garden party for Charles back in May.”
Yes, Meghan and Harry will be in the midst of their first long royal tour overseas to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand, so party or no party, their plates are full. Charles can't be too upset about it though. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be gone for pretty much half of October, but they'll return in time for Prince Charles's actual birthday on November 14.
Plus, they held off their honeymoon to make their first post-royal wedding appearance at a garden party honoring Charles already this year, so they've got plenty of respect for the future king.
We have a feeling Charles will understand.
