Why the Invictus Games Are So Close to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Hearts

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle probably could have gone anywhere for their first royal tour together, but they selected Australia. Going down under isn't exactly an unconventional choice, as Harry's mom Diana once proved, but the decision to go to Syndey specifically speaks to the location of the 2018 Invictus Games as much as it does personal preference.

In case you haven't heard of them before, the Invictus Games are an international multi-sport event for wounded or injured armed services personnel and veterans, where athletes from around the world go head to head, and this year they're in Sydney, Australia. The Games are an event very close to Prince Harry's heart, as they should be, since he essentially created them himself.

The Invictus Games are Harry's brainchild, created by him back in 2014, and they have become part of his love story with Meghan Markle through the years. Before Meghan was a household name, and back when she and Harry had been dating for about a year, she made her first public appearance alongside him at the 2017 Invictus Games, immediately sparking engagement rumors.

As we all know, it didn't take long for rumor to become reality, and they were engaged shortly afterwards. With the Invictus Games kicking off again, it marks a nostalgic note for the couple, and an opportunity to reflect on how much has changed in a single year.

Maybe for the 2020 Invictus Games, Baby Sussex will join them.
