According to sources for HELLO!, "the Duchess will not be attending the star-studded bash this year." PREVIOUSLY: Being a non-royal has its perks — at least for Meghan Markle. While her exit from the British monarchy won't be official until springtime, she's already plotting her return to the spotlight without any titles. According to The Sun, one of Meghan's first major appearances after stepping down from the royal family will be at the Met Gala in May. The outlet reports that the former actress was invited by Vogue UK editor Edward Enniful, who she co-collaborated with on the "Forces of Change" issue in September 2019. WPA Pool/Getty Images With Enniful as her date to the annual fashion party, Prince Harry will likely be sitting this one out. “Naturally Meghan was one of the first names on the guest list, and Edward’s team are excited that the two will go together," a source told The Sun. “Meghan is keen to step out occasionally without Harry so that she can establish herself once more in Hollywood." Meghan has also reportedly picked out a “glamorous androgynous” look tied to this year's theme: "About Time: Fashion and Duration." The exhibition will explore the connection between fashion and time through writings of authors, such as the late Virginia Woolf — including her novel Orlando, which sees the main character transition from a man to a woman. The Most Surprising Names That Have Been on the Met Gala's Guest List Meanwhile, Meghan's attendance will be a welcomed surprise to the woman responsible for the entire event, Anna Wintour. Last year, Wintour revealed that the duchess and her sister-in-law Kate Middleton were the top two names on her dream guest list during an appearance on the Today show. "I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge together," Wintour said. "That would be my dream couple. They could leave their husbands at home. It's the two of them I want." Talk about the power of manifestation.
