The senior Markle was preparing to fly to Britain to walk his daughter down the aisle. A couple weeks ahead of the ceremony, photos emerged of Thomas doing endearing dad things — being fitted for a suit, studying up on British landmarks — but soon after the photos were published, The Mail on Sunday revealed that the images were staged. Markle then claimed he’d suffered a heart attack and would no longer be able to attend the ceremony. Since then, Thomas has spoken to the press regarding his now-estranged daughter many, many times. In recent court documents obtained by Newsweek, it appears Meghan is taking The Mail on Sunday to task for their role in the rift. The Duchess of Sussex’s barrister, David Sherborne, reportedly wrote, "Following this public shaming by the [Mail on Sunday], Mr Markle suffered cardiac problems on 14 May, an event which [Meghan] only discovered because her father issued a public statement to that effect through the American tabloid website [TMZ].” Chris Jackson/Getty Images Thomas Markle's Reaction to Meghan and Harry's Royal Exit Is Predictably Shady “Even after the wedding, and her father's failure to attend as a result of his shaming, the [Mail on Sunday] continued to publish further articles, stirring up issues between [Meghan] and her father,” Sherborne continued. In court, Meghan’s legal team reportedly accused the paper of "harassing, humiliating, manipulating and exploiting" her father. Despite the lawsuit, the Markles still reportedly haven’t spoken since the royal wedding.
