As if on cue, thunder and lightning struck as guests including Miranda Kerr, Leigh Lezark, and Toni Collette entered The Roof lounge at New York's Viceroy Hotel last night to fete actress Amy Adams, the new face of Max Mara’s fall and spring accessory campaigns. But with the help of candle-lit lanterns, linen couches, banquet tables lined with creamy parrot tulips (arranged by stylist Taylor Tomasi Hill), and a tent, the atmosphere felt like a cozy midsummer's night dream, far removed from the storm.

"Even though it's raining, this outfit just felt right for tonight," Kerr (below) told InStyle of the label's cream-and-camel high-waisted trousers she selected. Befittingly, the boldest of the bunch was Adams, whose tomato-hued cocktail dress proved that redheads shouldn't shy away from red. "When I grew up, it was sort of a thing you weren't supposed to mix, but I got over that," she told us with a smile. "It felt cheerful and timeless—and I was in a good mood today. Max Mara has a way of bringing out the best in women."

The campaign, which was photographed by Mario Sorrenti and debuted yesterday, captures Adams with the label's Margaux and Signature Bag styles. In a toast just before dinner was served, Max Mara's Maria Giulia Maramotti explained why their sights were set on the Academy Award winner: "You are what I envision as a Max Mara woman. You are a mother, a gifted actress, you love your job and your family—you embody what a modern woman is."

Sometime between the sips of white wine and spoonfuls of flourless chocolate cake, the rain cleared but the guests didn't. "There was something so down to earth and comfortable about tonight," said The Good Wife actress Jess Weixler (above). "Some events never quite get there."
