Here's How Marsha Ambrosius and More Stars Paid Tribute to Prince at Essence Festival
Talk about a fitting way to close out the Essence Festival. During the last night of the mag's famed music fest Sunday, Marsha Ambrosius, Kelly Price, and more stars teamed up to honor Prince, with the music artists rocking the stage at the purple-lit Superdome in New Orleans for a touching tribute.
Members of Prince's band, the New Power Generation, as well as Price, Ambrosius, D-Nice Doug E. Fresh, Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham and more performed some of Prince's greatest hits including "Purple Rain" and "1999."
"I thanked and appreciated him in life as I heartachingly do thereafter," Ambrosius, who sang Prince's "Take Me a with You" and "Do Me Baby," previously told the mag. "[But] understanding his musical intent and precision since I was a child to this very day, there will never be another. His music [is] forever lasting!" As the singer sang "Do Me Baby," she kept rubbing her stomach, revealing news of her pregnancy for the first time.
In addition to those performances, New Orleans natives Luke James, Stooges Brass Band and The Roots of Music also took the stage for a musical tribute in honor of Prince's special relationship with the Louisiana city.
