But when we asked if there were any hair or makeup moments over the course of her expansive career she wished she could take back, the star confessed, laughing, that there were too many to even name. Carey has pretty much perfected her look by this point, nude lip and all, though if she had the chance to give her younger self a piece of advice, being more vocal in the makeup chair would have been a key tip—and we're not talking about her pre-show warmup. "I would have said to speak up if you don't like something. Tell the person, please don't do this to me, please don't put this makeup on me, please don't put this in my hair," she tells InStyle. "It can be really hard to do that though, especially when you're just starting out." The First MAC Product Mariah Carey Ever Bought, and What It Was Like to Create Her Own Lipstick "It depends on the type of person you are. Some people might be really vocal and say, 'I hate this, you don't know what you're doing,'" she continues. "That's not at all who I am or my personality. A lot of the beauty stuff, I learned on my own." It took some trial and error, though we can't ever say we've seen evidence of the latter, and eventually the star was able to develop relationships with makeup artists who helped in creating her signature aesthetic. As for the beauty advice she'd like to give to every girl in the world? Don't focus so much on changing things. "Just be yourself," she tells us. "Be as happy with being you as possible, and enjoy it." Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
