Margot Robbie Makes an Eerily Accurate Tonya Harding in The First I, Tonya Trailer
Margot Robbie nailed the landing—and her transformation into disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding. The Suicide Squad actress plays the former skating star and she’s spot-on in the first teaser trailer for the film, I, Tonya.
“America. They want someone to love. But they want someone to hate. And the haters always say, ‘Tonya, tell the truth.’ There’s no such thing as truth. I mean, it’s bullshit,” Robbie says in a voice-over, perfectly imitating Harding’s accent.
Robbie also laced up her skates for the film and hits the ice in the brand-new trailer after crushing a cigarette butt with her blade. Talk about badass.
The upcoming film chronicles Harding’s life and career, from becoming the first American woman to complete a triple axel at an international competition to the 1994 scandal, when her Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan was attacked.
The teaser also shows Sebastian Stan as Harding’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, who pled guilty to a charge of racketeering involved in the attack against Kerrigan. Allison Janney plays Harding’s mom, LaVona Golden.
