Beauty Fragrance The Many Hats of Pharrell (Nope, We're Not Just Talking About Fashion Here, People!) The first collaboration is an unexpected one, but as always, the star pulls it off with style: Williams has teamed up with Italian design company Kartell to create his own spin on Ferruccio Lavianis Bourgie Table Lamp for the staple's 10th anniversary. Williams's design features a translucent lamp shade, appropriately decked out in the word "shade," held up by a sculpture of an arm. "I used a human arm to represent the will of mankind in the daily plight of escaping the 'shade' and the challenges of attempting to get closer to enlightenment," he writes on his blog. "Illumination was meant to vanquish the 'shade.' The light will forever prevail. Inward, onward, and upward." Talk about a bright idea. Williams isn't the only celebrity to get involved—Lenny Kravitz, Kelly Wearstler, and many others created their own versions of the lamp, all of which are on display at the Kartell Showroom in New York City. His expansion into the beauty world is also making us incredibly "happy"! Yesterday in London, the singer broke the silence on his much-anticipated fragrance collaboration with Comme des Garcons, which is set to launch in September. The scent shares a name with his second studio album, Girl, which rolled out in March. Don't be fooled by the moniker—the heady wood, white pepper, and lavender blend is actually a unisex scent. Williams's idea of a wood-based fragrance came to him after meeting Sarah Andelman, the founder and creative director of Colette in Paris, at an Art Basel event a few years ago. "She gave me a hug, and I was like, 'What is that?' and she told me, Wonderwood," he tells WWD. "From that moment on, I was just in love with what Comme des Garcons did." Girl will arrive in Sephora stores nationwide starting Sept. 5 for $135, with a travel size version available for $30. We can't wait!
