A Manolo Blahnik Documentary Is in the Works
Fresh on the heels of recent fashion documentary darlings Iris and Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer, a documentary feature film on Manolo Blahnik is headed to the silver screen.
Titled Manolo (The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards), the picture takes a look at the iconic shoe designer’s life and includes appearances by the likes of Rihanna, Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss, Iman, and Candace Bushnell.
"Manolo Blahnik is an icon who continues to inspire people around the globe," James Cabourne, an executive producer, said in a statement. "We are genuinely excited to be producing this exclusive documentary showcasing his incredible lifetime of work.”
A short video on the brand’s site shows glimpses of the film, including footage of a young Blahnik crafting tiny shoes for lizards from candy wrappers in his hometown in the Canary Islands—the story behind the name of the picture. According to the clip, Rupert Everett has a cameo in the doc as the designer.
“Having known Manolo for over 30 years, I can say he is a multifaceted intellectual and romantic whose engaging mind and ingenious work is made for entertaining cinema,” director Michael Roberts said in a press release.
Currently in production, the documentary is set to debut during the European Film Market in Berlin next month.
