Our style crush strikes again! As evidenced by the stunning red carpet ensembles she breaks out regularly, Lupita Nyong'o can do no wrong, and the Calvin Klein number that she wore to the Critics' Choice Awards may just be our favorite look so far. "It reminds me of the sea, and the sea makes me calm," she told us. "I was hoping that it would help with that!" The serene vibe of the dress was fabulously contrasted with dramatic -- her makeup artist Nick Barose complemented the effect with a graphic smoky eye, and he gave us the step-by-step instructions on how you can try your hand at the look.

"We went for a modern black and white eye with pearl shimmer. When pairing black and white eye shadow next to each other, it creates a dramatic, graphic look because the two colors contrast, but the shimmery texture softens it," he told InStyle.com. "The effect is more ethereal."

Barose began by blending Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre cream shadow in Fantasme ($36; chanel.com) onto the star's brow bone, and along the inner corners of her eyes. Picking up the Troy Surratt Smokey Eye Baton in Fumee Noir ($35; barneys.com), he used both the black powder shadow and liner to define the crease and give her eyes an elongated shape. Two coats of mascara, defined brows, and a sweep of MAC's Lipglass in Lovechild ($15; maccosmetics.com) finished the look.
