Liv Tyler on Designing Her New Belstaff Collection: "I Wanted to Create My Essentials"
Adopting Liv Tyler’s indomitable sense of cool just became as easy as clicking “add to cart.”
The 39-year-old actress, mother of three, and beloved style star has officially released Liv Tyler for Belstaff Collection, a capsule of wardrobe staples that the beauty herself would wear day in and day out. “This was my first time designing a collection and a big learning experience—it was a new process for me,” Tyler, who has previously partnered with the brand, told InStyle. “We went through Belstaff’s archives. This was so inspiring and helpful in capturing the spirit of the brand. Our capsule is a collection of pieces I love, and which I hope find their way into other women’s closets.”
The items came together with help from the brand’s creative director, Delphine Ninous (pictured with Tyler, below), and include a mix of ready-to-wear garments and accessories that range from $500 to $2,500. “I wanted to create my essentials. Things I really wanted and needed in my closet: the perfect military coat, a great cape, a knee-high lace-up riding boot, my favorite bag,” she added. “One of the things I really love and wanted to emphasize was the combination of masculine and feminine. I wanted to express strength through the outerwear and leather pieces alongside a more feminine sensual side through the softer materials like silk, and via the more fitted silhouettes of my styles.”
So where does a talent with such great style turn for inspiration? Her icons. “I often draw my inspiration from old films and photographs and even women around me who I have been inspired by, like my mother, my grandmother, Debbie Harry, and girlfriends I have grown up with like Kate Moss and Stella McCartney,” she said.
As for which items we can expect to see Tyler herself rocking, it’s all about outerwear. “My favorite Belstaff pieces are great coats that you can wear with anything. I will be wearing the military coat from my collection a lot—with pretty dresses or pants and soft, feminine blouses—to add a touch of masculinity,” she added.
