Great news for Law & Order: SVU fans! Our favorite police procedural will return for a nineteenth season! Executive producer and star Mariska Hargitay will be back as Lt. Olivia Benson alongside co-stars Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino and Raul Esparza. Law & Order: SVU is currently TV's longest running drama. The show will have to go another two seasons to achieve being the longest running (non-cartoon) TV show in history.

The iconic series began in 1999 and since then viewers have seen hundreds of episodes featuring "ripped from the headlines" plots and endless Mariska greatness. Die-hard fans of the show have experienced the emotional tidal wave of the coming and going of cast members—most notably, fan favorite Detective Elliot Stabler, played expertly by Christopher Meloni. The series is known for featuring celebrity guest appearances. Basically everybody who's anybody has made a cameo at some point. Hillary Duff, Hayden Panettiere, Serena Williams, Amanda Seyfried, Bradley Cooper and Robin Williams are only a handful of the famous faces dotted through the almost twenty years the show has been on the air. In February 2017 the crime series celebrated its 400th episode.
While celebrating the show's success, E! News asked Mariska Hargitay about her future on the series. "Each year the show goes in such a sort of different direction and that's been very exciting because like life we sort of never know what's going to happen. I always just say I'll know when I'll know," she responded. "I think about it very carefully and I put a lot of thought into the future and what it holds and how long I'll stay on the show. Obviously my muscles have had quite an acting workout in the last 18 years, but also I've been so blessed with now moving into producing and obviously with the directing, so I really, really, really enjoyed that."
Hopefully Law & Order: SVU will stick around for years to come. After all, what else are we going to marathon-watch in our pjs?
