Angelina Jolie (in Saint Laurent), Lauren Bush Lauren, and more came together in support of international women’s rights yesterday at the first day of the 2013 Women in the World Summit, an annual event sponsored by the Women in the World Foundation and held at New York City’s Lincoln Center. The female empowerment event was co-hosted by several powerful ladies, including Daily Beast editor-in-chief Tina Brown (shown with Jolie) and designer Diane von Furstenberg. After an evening filled with inspirational performances and speeches, Jolie closed out the night by pledging $200,000 to the Malala Fund, a Pakistani education initiative started by Malala Youstafzai, the 15-year-old who received international attention after she was shot by the Taliban for her outspoken support of gender equality in education. "They shot her at point blank range and made her stronger,” Jolie said in her speech announcing her support for the Malala Fund. “In a brutal attempt to silence her voice, it grew louder, and she is more resolute."
