Stylist Brandon Maxwell on Lady Gaga's Golden Globe Nomination: "Nobody Deserves It More Than Her"
Hard work pays off, and that’s exactly why the hours Lady Gaga spent poring over her American Horror Story: Hotel scripts earned her a Golden Globe nomination for her sexy and dramatic role as the fictional Hotel Cortez’s fashion-obsessed Countess. And while the six-time Grammy winner’s entry into the world of acting is an unexpected one, stylist, fashion designer, and Haus of Gaga insider Brandon Maxwell knew she’d be nothing but silver-screen gold.
“I’m so excited for her,” Maxwell tells InStyle. “She’s obviously one of the most talented people in the world and she deserves it so much and she’s worked so hard and I couldn’t be happier for her. Nobody deserves it more than her.”
The designer, who woke up early Thursday morning in anticipation of good news following the Globes nominations announcement, considers Lady Gaga his muse and “best friend and collaborator.”
“I had hoped that it would happen because I think she’s incredible on the show,” he says, adding, “I was screaming—she was so excited and overjoyed. She’s so happy and honored. I love her because she really appreciates everything and she's worked incredibly hard on that show and it's very well deserved.”
The "Born This Way" singer took to Twitter to share her excitement:
I apologize to my neighbors I'm still screaming in my apt in NY! I'm nominated as an actress for a Golden Globe what a dream is this real!— The Countess (@ladygaga) December 10, 2015
So what does Gaga’s right hand man love about her the most? “No matter what's going on in her life she's kind to people, she's supportive, she's incredibly smart, she's just an inspiration,” he says. “What I always say about her is, exactly what you see is exactly what you get—and that's not always true of everyone. And for me, I think that she is a legend and it's a blessing and a joy to be around her.”
And while Maxwell is busy prepping to showcase his second collection in New York next February, he promises the duo aren't resting on their laurels as far as future collaborative projects go. “What I've loved so much is that we've all sort of grown up together and we've worked together and we've dreamed together and we've seen some wonderful things happen in the past year,” he says. “I am very blessed and very thankful and I hope to just continue that into the New Year.”
