In case any fans were worried that Lady Gaga planned to leave music behind for a full-time acting career: Mother Monster squashed that chatter Sunday night after taking home a Golden Globe Award for her role as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel.
“I am putting out an album this year,” Gaga said in the Globes press room as she exuded Old Hollywood glam in a structured black Brandon Maxwell gown. “I won’t tell you when. It is coming out this year.” The “Do What U Want” songstress is still working out the details of the music project, telling reporters she isn’t sure if the album will reflect her “outer appearance” when it drops, like it usually does.
“I don’t know what I will look like for my next album,” she continued. “I’m still creating all of these things. It’s something that is a gradual change always with me.” Fans can expect to have a little bit of the Countess thrown into the mix when it debuts, with Gaga adding that she’ll be holding on to what she learned from her AHS character as she creates it.
“What was nice about playing the Countess is that it reminded me that in my own mind and in my music, I’m always at times playing a character,” she said. “I become them fully. Living inside of her was just liberating. She doesn’t give a sh— about anything. She’s lived too long, knows too much to be bothered by a thing. I am a little bit different than that. But I will say that I think that confidence will stay with me.”
Mostly, Gaga wants to continue to do work that inspires her fans. Although she admitted in her acceptance speech that she wanted to become an actress before she ever thought about singing, it is clear that a big part of her body of work will still be music (and that’s worth celebrating too).
