Never have we ever seen such frenzy over a lip product since the launch of Kylie Jenner's Lip Kits. The products have launched a thousand comparable liquid matte lipsticks in their wake, and just when we start to think she's taking a break, she hits us with a brand new color. In a post on her website and app today, the younger Jenner shared the driving inspiration behind her now-infamous (and usually sold out) line. "Long before I got my lips done, I was really obsessed with lipstick," she wrote. "I was always trying to make my lips look bigger, but didn't want people to know I was actually wearing lipstick."
And with that, she began her adventures in overlining, with MAC's nude-toned Whirl ($17; nordstrom.com) being her gateway into the trend. "I was really into it, but once everyone figured out what I was wearing, it would sell out." Now those are some Alanis Morrissette levels of ironic if we've ever seen them... Tired of having her go-to hue constantly out of stock, Jenner started the creation process on her own lip liner and color duo, not realizing the Lip Kits would take off the way they did. "In the beginning, I didn't care because I was doing it for me, but it's amazing how successful it is now," she added. The rest, as they say, is history.
