In terms of beauty looks, there's a few we've come to expect from Kim Kardashian. Nude lips, a fantastic contour, and straight, glossy hair make up the big three. So when she veers in the complete opposite direction, we're always left a little surprised. And that's exactly what happened last night at the 2018 CFDA Awards, where Kim K. W. was to accept her Influencer Award.

With the help of celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, Kardashian's hair was pulled up into a textured, messy high ponytail, a far cry from her normal super sleek hair looks. The process of achieving the pony was shockingly simple, too. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes in the morning, and you could easily pull this one off.

To begin, Appleton applied the Color Wow Brass Banned Correct & Perfect Mousse for Dark Hair ($24; dermstore.com) to add texture and definition. Then, he blow-dried the hair with a diffuser to boost the hair's natural texture. Next, he applied the Color Wow Pop & Lock Gloss Treatment ($20; dermstore.com) throughout the mid-lengths to add shine.

Finally, he used the ghd curve classic curl iron ($199; sephora.com) to add a defined wave to random sections of hair, and then pulled the hair into a ponytail using his fingers.

As for her makeup? That was a little more on the expected side. "I wanted Kim to have her classic 'Kim K Glam' look for tonight’s event and not veer too far off from what she is known for," said celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic. "To change it up a bit for the CFDA’s tonight, I added gloss to her lids and went for a darker lip than we normally go for."

He created the look with various KKW Beauty products, and achieved that darker lip with Kardashian's new lip liners and lipsticks.
