Kelly Ripa Mistook Mark Consuelos's Cute Surprise for a Mugging

On Wednesday’s episode Live with Kelly and Ryan, co-host Kelly Ripa shared one of her beloved stories about married life with husband Mark Consuelos. This particular tale, however, had a twist.

Consuelos flew to N.Y.C. for a job and had planned to return immediately to Vancouver to film Riverdale. Unbeknownst to Ripa, Consuelos’s shoot in N.Y.C. wrapped early, so he decided to surprise her in the city.

Ripa was leaving the gym, headphones primed for the playlist of her choice, when she heard a voice. "I hear, 'Hey sexy,' and it's so funny — it never occurs to me that this person is talking to me," Ripa told co-host Ryan Seacrest. "It sounds too close and I was like, 'I'm about to be mugged by somebody flirting with somebody who doesn't even have the thoughtfulness to pay attention to me while they're mugging me.'"

But despite not having her glasses on, Ripa came to (however vaguely) identify said would-be thief as her husband of nearly 24 years. Consuelos brought her roses, explaining that he’d remembered it was the anniversary of the day they met, during his screentest for All My Children 26 years prior.
