When it comes to the appropriate attire for any occasion, look no further than the can-do-no-wrong Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. The Duchess was resplendent while attending the royal family's annual Christmas Day church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church, in an expertly tailored forest green coat.

The belted style by Sportmax, which Middleton paired for a jaunty matching hat, hit all the right notes: It kept her warm, but showed off her trim waist and long lean lines. And even the typical U.K. rain didn't seem to put damper on spirits. Middleton grinned ear to ear as her "date" Prince William held an umbrella for her.

Middleton finished her look with sensible boots and a sparkly brooch worn on her coat's lapel. Earlier in the week, the two wished their many followers a Merry Christmas with a shot of the Kensington Palace grounds (and tree), and a family portrait.

A very #merrychristmas to everyone from Kensington Palace

A new family photo - Merry Christmas from The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The Duke and Duchess are hugely appreciative of all the warm messages they have received about their family this year and are very much looking forward to their first Christmas as a family of four.
