While Joaquin Phoenix may not be the easiest man to read off-screen, his impressive line-up of award-winning work has cemented a spot for him among Hollywood's best actors. Today, we wish a happy birthday to the now 41-year-old, whose outstanding projects have earned him a Grammy (yes, he plays music, too!), a Golden Globe, and three Academy Award nominations. Congrats, Joaquin!

Now a veteran to the acting world, Phoenix emerged on the acting scene in 1986 with his debut film role in Space Camp. From there it was full speed ahead for the actor who has since appeared in a steady stream of films, including To Die For (1995), Quills (2000), and the totally epic film Gladiator (2000). After playing a supporting role in Gladiator—and receiving critical acclaim and an Academy Award nom for his performance—Phoenix began landing more lead roles in some of his most noteworthy films to date. These include Walk the Line (2005), The Master (2012), and the romantic science fiction drama Her (2013)—to name a few.

Here's to Phoenix on his special day! We can't wait to see what this next year holds for the star who never ceases to surprise and entertain. And, given his long list of titles, which now include actor, producer, music video director, and musician, we can only guess which road the multi-talented man will travel next. Happy birthday, Joaquin!
