On Wednesday night's American Idol, the Las Vegas performer greeted eager Hollywood contestants in a sheer, lace, and embellished Thai Nguyen dress that proved she’s ready to up the fashion ante on the hit show’s final run. To pair her look-at-me design effortlessly, Lopez slipped into a pair of black sparkly Christian Loubotuin pumps and took a more is more approach to her jewels, bathing in several diamond and black studded rings, bracelets, and earrings. And while her signature smoky eye and come-hither pout remained on-point, it’s her experimental ‘do that spoke volumes. “The style we did tonight is called ‘sprout cornrows’ because they sprout out,” hairstylist Neicy Small told InStyle. “First, we sectioned the hair and then added a small dab of gel to her loose hair in the front. Then as we braided the sections, we put some gel on each piece so it was smooth. We finished by spraying [L'Oreal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray] ($15; ulta.com) all over.” PHOTOS: J.Lo's Head-to-Toe Looks from Seasons 14 and 15 of American Idol Take note of Small’s tried and true trick. After all, we’re sure Lopez will change it up dramatically on tonight’s two-hour American Idol episode, airing live at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
