Katie Holmes Made an Extremely Rare Red Carpet Appearance Just in Time for the Holidays
If you're a big fan of music (and really, who isn't?) Friday's Grammy nomination announcement — and all the drama it brought — probably got you jazzed for the 2019 ceremony. But while you were celebrating by repeating your favorites on Spotify, many of the nominees themselves were taking the stage at Madison Square Garden for the 2018 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball presented by Capital One.
Nominees like Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, and Bebe Rexha hit the stage to the delight of their fans, and they brought along some friends. Katie Holmes was one such surprise, and she even walked the red carpet in a holiday-appropriate lace black top and trendy snakeskin boots.

Shawn Mendes had the whole room shaking
Madison Square Garden is a notoriously big venue — it seats almost 21,000 people — so when Mendes took the stage and his many, many enthusiastic fans stood up in applause, the entire room literally shook.
Most of the crowd kept on their feet during his set, where he sang his hits in addition to a tasteful cover of "Use Somebody" and swapped out guitars between each take. The sweetest part? He threw his guitar picks into the audience after he finished each song (probably causing unintentional brawls between fans).
The best way to sum up the performance is the way a bystander did when asked, "Do you know this song?"
"I know all of them," they said. "And I didn't even realize it."
Cardi B felt the Christmas spirit
Despite her (very) recent split from Offset, Cardi was in party mode during her performance at Jingle Ball. The rapper told the audience, "I cannot wait to spend my first Christmas with my baby," generating plenty of aw's among the crowd.
With a slew of Grammy nods under her belt (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year) there was reason to celebrate. The headliner closed off the whole evening with her hit "Bodak Yellow," assuring fans that she's going to keep performing it "until the day I die."
Monsta X's dance moves outshine everyone else's
If we were giving out an award for "Best Dancer" at the Jingle Ball, it would go to Monsta X, hands down. The K-pop band opened the whole shebang, and while their vocals were also great, they stole the show with their moves.
Need further proof? Check out them breaking it down on the subway before going on stage. Now, that's talent.
Katie Holmes gave Meghan Trainor some love
Just like last year, Holmes came out to the Jingle Ball to give a nod to a performer. Last year was Taylor Swift — whom Holmes intro'd with help from Suri Cruise — and this time around, it was Meghan Trainor.
"I am so happy to be here celebrating the holidays with all of you," Holmes told the crowd. "I'm so excited to introduce one of my favorite artists, Grammy award winning Meghan Trainor."
Sparkles were all the rage, as Sabrina Carpenter proves
If you wanted a little holiday sparkle in your life, both Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello brought it at the Jingle Ball. Both artists dressed up in head-to-toe silver sparkles, which feels very appropriate for the holidays.
