How to Make a Japanese Hot Toddy

So it’s only mid-January and already you’ve reached your personal Hot Toddy limit for the winter (which is not hard considering this cozy cocktail recipe calls for just three simple ingredients). If you’re looking to mix it up, try this unique Japanese take on the classic from Bar Goto, a chic, intimate spot located on N.Y.C.’s Lower East Side. “The Yuzu-Apple Toddy is deeper and more complex than a traditional Hot Toddy,” says the bar’s founder and mixologist Kenta Goto. “It has a nice balance of apple, ginger, and yuzu, and you can customize the sweetness by adding more marmalade.” Whip up the recipe below this weekend.

Yuzu-Apple Toddy

1¾ oz calvados, or apple brandy ($30;
1½ oz lemon ginger tea ($2;
3 tsp lemon juice
3 tsp honey
1 tsp yuzu marmalade ($8;

1. Combine all ingredients in a pot, except for the marmalade.
2. Heat the mixture up to 130° F.
3. Strain into a tea cup. Add the marmalade, stir, and enjoy!
