Janelle Monáe Dishes On Her Electrifying Album At Exclusive iHeartRadio Performance

Last night Grammy Award-nominated singer and songwriter Janelle Monáe rocked the house in an exclusive set she performed as part of the iHeartRadio Live Series. The energetic performance held at the at the at iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, California celebrated Monáe's second album The Electric Lady, which was released in September. "This whole album is fun, it’s jamming," she tells InStyle. Featuring tracks with major female artists like Solange, Esperanza Spalding, and Erykah Badu, The Electric Lady is full of collaborations that Monáe really pushed for. "I love other visionaries, especially female visionaries. When I was writing The Electric Lady I didn't just want to say 'I’m for female empowerment,' I wanted to really go out and ask and approach these women that I admire to be part of my project," she says. "I’ve tried to redefine what it means to be a female in this industry—in the fashion world, in the music world, in the film world, and as a live performer."

At the event, the star treated fans to a sneak peek of her new tune "What is Love?," as well as hits like "Tightrope," "Dance Apocalyptic," "Q.U.E.E.N.," and more. Constantly engaging with the audience, Monáe danced with fans and encouraged everyone to have fun along with her. "I do music with the expectation of just giving back what the creator has blessed me with. As a creative person I know that these ideas are meant to inspire not just me, but millions of people," Monáe says. "To be invited to play at iHeartRadio for their live series and to be able to bring the music directly to my 'fandroids' (what I call my fans), is something I would never take for granted."
