Ivanka Trump Refused to Echo Her Father's Criticism of Greta Thunberg

Donald Trump may have doubled down on mocking climate activist Greta Thunberg, but his daughter Ivanka Trump is apparently declining to echo her father's criticisms.

According to the New York Times, she was asked about Thunberg's warning to world leaders at the World Economic Forum at Davos, and told reporters she believed in the "power of optimism."

"I’m not going to criticize anyone who’s bringing their energy and voice," she said. "That’s not my style. I think she’s elevated awareness and that’s a positive thing."

While the president has been outspoken in his belief that climate change is a "hoax," Ivanka has not thus far used her platform to speak on global warming in any major capacity.

The comments came after the 17-year-old called upon global leaders at the summit to act on climate change.

"I wonder, what will you tell your children was the reason to fail and leave them facing the climate chaos you knowingly brought upon them?" Thunberg asked, according to the Times. "Our house is still on fire. Your inaction is fueling the flames by the hour."

President Trump has repeatedly mocked Thunberg for her activism, tweeting that she has an "anger management problem" after she won Time magazine's "Person of the Year" last month. Thunberg, for her part, trolled him right back by changing her Twitter bio to include his insults.

Earlier this week, Thunberg met with Prince Charles at the forum and bonded over their shared passion for the environment — and the strangeness of constantly being photographed.

"I guess you’re very used to this," Thunberg said to Prince Charles — to which he said, "This has taken many years to get used to." Thunberg responded, "I’m still not used to it."
