Celebrities Reveal Well-Kept Secrets About Their Dresses at the InStyle Awards 2017

If you're getting ready for a fancy event, you might have found the perfect outfit that both looks and feels great, but that doesn't mean it won't come with little quirks. Just ask Hollywood celebrities (we know we did).

When we approached stars on the red carpet at the InStyle Awards 2017 on Monday, they got pretty candid with us about the ins and outs of their specific looks. Let's just say that when it comes to red carpet dressing, there's a lot more than initially meets the eye.

Take Elle Fanning, for example. The actress wore a loud patterned Versace dress with Marilyn Monroe's face plastered over it, but we never would've guessed the meaning behind it at first glance.

"Marilyn Monroe has always been my favorite so I was like, 'This is the perfect thing to wear her on my body tonight,'" Fanning told us. "I have her face cream and face powder. When I was 7 years old, my grandma went to an auction and got that for me. She's always been kind of a fashion icon to me."

Others had even more unconventional looks. Kate Bosworth wore a sequin gown that you could literally draw on (which is exactly what she does in the video above), while Rachel Zoe's dress, from her own collection, naturally, was on completely backwards.

Still, after digging deeper into these high-fashion looks, we discovered some celebrities were only a hair's breadth away from a fashion mishap.

"It's very delicate, so if one layer kind of comes up, you will see everything," Zendaya said. "So these layers must stay down."

Thankfully, we didn't see anything of the sort happen.
