I have a very “blended” wardrobe, meaning my work clothes have to transition for evening events. Whenever I need to get dressed to go out at night, I stare at my closet as though I have no options because everything is a piece I would wear to the office. I have decided to address this issue with a new purchase, the jumpsuit.

There is nothing more satisfying then going out and buying something that you get a ton of mileage out of. Sometimes it’s the simplest piece in black or white that becomes a closet all-star. And this is where the jumpsuit comes in. Forget the throw back, too tight, flared versions of the past: the spring jumpsuits are as sleek and modern as they come.

My personal favorite is all black or black and white for evening, like the J. Mendel style Emma Watson wore (pictured above). To get the look yourself, shop the look-a-like 10 Crosby Derek Lam style (also pictured above) at The two-tone is nice because it comes pre-styled and looks like perfectly paired separates (that stay in place). Think of it as a new take on a tuxedo and layer with a blazer to change the shape.

Avoid an all over print, which can be overwhelming with this much fabric. The cut of a looser fit jumpsuit is really flattering and helps to hide imperfections. Look for one with a tapered leg that hits right at the ankle, making it versatile with a pump or sandal.

This is going to be a go-to for a night out with a leather jacket, or as is with minimal jewelry. They have an edgier feel so mixing in a metal cuff and a bold lip is encouraged.

If you choose to go for an all-black, monochrome look, try the Topshop jumpsuit below (Topshop, $160; And, as a finishing touch, steal Emma Watson's lip shade with this Nars pencil (Nars Lip Pencil in Hyde Park, $25;
