One of freshest must-own pant shapes this season is, without a doubt, culottes. On the hanger this shape looks intimidating, and frankly, scared me at first, but on the body it’s almost exactly like wearing a midi length skirt. If you can pull off one, you can pull off the other.

Getting in early on a trend piece is a smart buy, because you can get multiple seasons out of them. Culottes have already showed their staying power during the Fall14 collections, ensuring that they will not be a regretted purchase.

Tricky shapes are hard enough without adding bright fabrics and prints so I will be avoiding the bold colors. The formula for styling your spring culottes is to pair with structured boxy top or jacket with a delicate pump or heel. For the high summer months you can pair with a crop top that hits just at the waistline of the pant. Or, if you prefer flat sandals a poolside is a perfect choice.

A wide leg crop pant is a bit of a chameleon piece and can be ultra casual in cotton, office appropriate with a blazer in a twill or textured fabric, and in a satin, look amazingly modern for evening.

Takeaway tip: Tailoring is key, make sure they are cut well and skim the hip with out being tight on the upper thigh -- the ideal length is mid-calf so if you are shorter, make sure to get them hemmed.
