The backpack is back! Having taken a long hiatus since it’s '90’s heyday, this shape has once again made it’s way back to cool.

As playful as the painted Chanel art school backpacks were on the runway, my favorites for everyday are much sleeker and structured with luxe hardware and skins in neutrals, like the Elizabeth and James style shown above (left). The dove gray L.A.M.B style (pictured above, right) also speaks to that desired look—shop it at

My ideal look would be for the weekend with a striped long sleeve tee, silky loose trouser and a slip on modern sandal or slide. Or for the office, a textured solid full skirt, soft knit, and flat menswear shoe.

I also love the idea of just using this for travel in addition to your carry-on, it looks chic and functions well when you are actually on the move.

Most designers did a great not committal style that allows you to convert the strap and carry as a regular satchel.

Look for ones in leather to elevate instantly and with minimal details. Not sure where to find one? Try sticking to designers that you already like to carry in handbags and most likely you will be a fan of their take on a backpack. Shop a few of our favorites below.
