#HowToWearIt: Attire for a Summery Pool Party
In this weekly feature, InStyle’s Senior Market Editor/Digital Correspondent Dana Avidan-Cohn shares tips and tricks on how to tackle the latest trends. Look for it on What’s Right Now every Friday and be sure to try out the trend yourself and tweet your look using #HowToWearIt.
So you’ve gotten an invite to your first casual, poolside party of the summer and now you need to figure out what you're going to wear. The biggest mistake people make is overdoing it. If the party's starting when it’s still light out, skip the heels and repeat after me: “I am not in Cannes!” Stilettos and dressy clothes will always look out of place at low-key functions. Instead, you want that sun-kissed allure of an afternoon on the beach coupled with the "I just threw this on and I look amazing" vibe, like the See by Chloé looks above.
Begin with the perfect shoe, which is the of-the-moment pool slide. Take advantage of the comfortable trend! Because, really, cool has replaced sexy for the beach. Be sure to keep a few things in your bag to change into as the sun starts to set. Start by hanging out in your swimsuit and panama hat and then throw on an simple dress with a colorful lip as the night goes on.
